World Sportscar Championship 1983 review released on DVD

Classic World Sportscars Championship season reviews on DVD have proved such a hit with fans

Duke has decided to add another title to this extraordinary collection.

The World Sportscar Championship in the 1980s had all the ingredients of a motorsport spectacular

- legendary drivers, massively-powerful cars, iconic circuits and some of the fastest and most

furious racing ever. For the first time on DVD, complete seasons can be enjoyed again, with

awesome race footage, rare interviews with the biggest names and informed commentary.

DVDs featuring highlights from each season between 1984 and 1989 have already been released by

Duke, and now a comprehensive look back at 1983 has been added to the set.

The mighty Porsche 956 was the class of the field in 1983, and the works Rothmans-backed team

was the one to beat. Despite impressive challenges from Lancia Martini and the privately-entered

Porsches of Joest, JDavid and Kremer, the down-to-the-wire championship battle would be between

works Porsche drivers.

The action-packed review features dramatic highlights and interviews with the stars bringing

viewers the full story of the season. Exceptional action footage, including in-car sequences courtesy

of the Rothmans Porsches, from all seven rounds charts the incredible year-long battle for the

driver’s title.

The ‘83 season boasted an impressive driver line-up, including sportscars greats Derek Bell, Jacky

Ickx, Stefan Bellof, Jochen Mass, Jan Lammers and Bob Wollek. There were also Grand Prix stars

past, present and future like Michele Alboreto, Riccardo Patrese, Thierry Boutsen and Stefan

Johansson, plus appearances from legends like Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg and Mario Andretti.

Joest showed early promise with victory in the opening round at Monza, but the works Porsche

team soon established its dominance, taking victory at every other round.

The season-long duel between Ickx and Bell came to a dramatic and tension-packed finale at the

last round of the season, as rain, spins and crashes kept the outcome in doubt right down to the

chequered flag.

Le Mans race for a decade, the car-wrecking Fuji round and much more

This DVD has all the highlights, including the dramatic wet weather race at Silverstone, the closest

CELEBRATE A GOLDEN AGE OF

BRITISH MOTORING

Great British Cars – Motoring in the Golden Age released on DVD

The latest DVD release from Duke celebrates an era when Britain ruled the roads. Glorious footage

shows a cavalcade of the best of British, from the prestige of Rolls Royce to the practicality of

Dagenham’s Fords.

Viewers are treated to wonderful close-ups of perfectly maintained and lovingly restored classics

still running today, as well as archive footage of iconic machines in action on road and track in their

heyday. From design workshops and factory floors to race circuit and modern day parades, this is

an essential guide to the most important vehicles in British automotive history.

Great British Cars – Motoring in the Golden Age opens with a look at the luxury liners, including

the Rolls Royce Corniche, Bentley Continental R Fastback and the ‘space, grace and pace’ offered

by Jaguar with its groundbreaking Mark VII and S-Type.

It moves on to the sports car classics, including Jaguar’s record-breaking XK120 and legendary EType,

Aston Martin’s sought-after Zagato and iconic DB5, and Colin Chapman’s ingenious Lotus

designs, plus the unforgettable Austin Healeys, MGs and the Jensen FF.

Then there are the family favourites, led by the British-built Fords created at Dagenham. Alongside

the reliable runabouts like the Anglia and Prefect, the programme examines the sporting pedigree of

the Lotus Cortina, the Escort and the Capri with some action-packed racing footage and

contributions from the likes of three-times Formula One World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart.

Finally Great British Cars – Motoring in the Golden Age pays tribute to the contribution of the

design genius Alec Issigonis with an examination of two of his most famous creations, the Morris

Minor and the Mini.

Alongside the mouth watering footage, informed commentary brimming with detailed technical

information ensures Great British Cars is an authoritative examination of Motoring in the Golden
